Police crack down on speeding drivers

A crackdown on speeding drivers saw local police officers issue more than 30 tickets for motoring offences in one day earlier this week.

Local Policing Team officers conducted the “focused anti-speed operation” on Tuesday, November 22 in the greater Banbridge and Craigavon areas.

A post on the PSNI Banbridge Facebook page said: “We were out with the speed gun around residential areas, popular walking routes and schools. A total of 36 tickets were issued, four people reported for using a mobile phone whilst driving, excess speed, driving with no insurance, and driving around a roundabout the wrong way.”

During the operation, officers also seized a bag of Class A drugs and syringes.

The post continued: “Guys, we know it sucks to be given a ticket, but if a person is racing past a school well above the speed limit, then quite frankly they deserve a ticket. There were two separate drivers going at 54mph and 55mph in 30mph zones, outside schools, when the children were getting out to go home!

“At the end of the day, we don’t do this out of badness; we do it to keep people safe. Many thanks to those of you who expressed your appreciation to us today. I always get really chuffed when members of the public speak so positively to us. Keep the speed down guys, especially coming into winter when the roads are getting icy.”
