Poem to mark anti-bullying week chosen

Amy Hampton, 10D, based her poem, The Waterfall, on ‘what bullying means to me’, which is this year’s theme, for the anti-bullying week held by the Northern Ireland Anti-Bullying Forum (NIABF).

This week is Anti-Bullying Week, and over 800 schools and youth groups across Northern Ireland are taking part in the campaign.

Schools are being encouraged to explore with the young people they work with their individual and collective understanding of what bullying means.

This is in anticipation of proposed legislation that will propose a single definition of bullying for use in all schools.

This competition was run through the school’s Creative Writing Club and several of the junior pupils submitted entries on what everyone considers as a very meaningful and important issue.

School Principal, Mr McLoughlin has warmly commended Amy’s work.

He said: “I am delighted that Amy’s beautiful poem has won the Creative Writing Competition and I believe her words are an example to everyone of how we can help and support each other.”

Amy’s poem will be read during the special assemblies held in her school.

During Anti-Bullying Week and she has been invited to receive her prize at a special ceremony in the RADAR Centre, Belfast, followed by a buffet lunch.
