Playtime boost for Fair Hill nursery

PUPILS of Fair Hill Primary School's new nursery class have had a playtime boost thanks to Swedish home furnishings giant Ikea.

Marking the launch of its 2010 Soft Toy Campaign, Ikea added a splash of colour to the Kinallen school's nursery with a welcome donation.

Pupils are now enjoying the benefit of a plentiful supply of soft toys, a play kitchen and new storage products.

Fair Hill Principal, Mrs. Cynthia Clinghan, said the 26 pupils in class were excited by the donation.

"The children were thrilled to receive a wonderful selection of toys and products from IKEA, Belfast," she said. "The toys, new kitchen, playmat and added storage have all been very welcome additions to the classroom and we are very grateful to Ikea for their generosity."

Ikea's Soft Toy Campaign is an initiative involving Save the Children and UNICEF.

Launched yesterday (Monday), it will run until December 24, when the company will donate one euro for every soft toy purchased in over 300 stores worldwide, including the Belfast store.

Ikea Belfast's Lynn Campbell said, "We were delighted to be able to give a selection of our favourite children's products to the nursery class and are sure the children will have plenty of fun with the toys.

"October is a significant month for IKEA as we launch this year's Soft Toy appeal - a major initiative which in recent years has raised €23.8 million for children in Asia, Africa and Central and Eastern Europe."

Fair Hill's nursery class got up and running this year after Stormont Education Minister Caitriona Ruane earlier approved a Southern Education and Library Board development proposal.

In May this year it emerged that there wwere no available funds to proceed with the development, but Mrs. Clinghan advised parents of a reshuffle to make room for the unit.
