Play area urgently needed

The issue, which has been raised a number of times in recent years, is one which urgently needs addressed, according to SDLP representatives Dolores Kelly and Seamus Doyle.

Mrs Kelly said, “I have written to Banbridge District Council urging them to speedily find a solution to the legal dispute holding back the development of land into a play area in Laurencetown.

“There have been a growing number of young families in Laurencetown and Gilford over the past few years with the construction of new developments and subsequently many people moving to the villages.

“Play is of utmost importance in the early development of children and playgrounds in both Laurencetown and Gilford would be a fantastic boost for these communities.”

Councillor Seamus Doyle said, “There has been an increase in the child populations of Laurencetown and Gilford over the past decade, yet this has not been coupled with a growth in facilities for children in these areas.

“The SDLP has been lobbying for improved play amenities for young people in our community for some time and will continue to put pressure on the council to bring to fruition projects in these areas as soon as possible.”
