THE sixth annual Ballyward Parish Church Vintage Threshing Rally will be held on Saturday, October 4.

The event begins at 11am in the usual field, adjacent to McBride's Crossroads, Moneyslane.

Each year has been more successful than previous, but organisers agree it will be difficult to top last year's rally which was graced with excellent weather and a big crowd.Five local schools are participating in the colouring competition, St. Mary's Dechomet, St. Matthew's Magheramayo, Drumadonnell Moneyslane, Iveagh Rathfriland and St. Mary's Rathfriland.

All the entries will be on display in the marquee at the rally and the prizes will be distributed at approximately 2.30pm.

At present pianos are being sourced for the piano smashing competition which always proves to be a real crowd puller.

Entries have been received from several teams who hope to be selected to take part in this popular event.

This year there will again be the mini digger skills competition and it will involve ducks, water and rugby balls.

While this event is popular with the younger generation, this year organisers have decided to have an adult only session from 1.30pm to 2pm.

As always there will be homemade broth, sandwiches and buns in the catering tent, hot snacks from the burger stall and the youth club tuck shop.

An assortment of stalls, bouncy castle and giant slide should keep everyone entertained, not to mention the vast array of vintage and classic vehicles on display.

Admission for exhibitors is 5, adults 3 and children free.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, September 18, a cheque for 1,050 was presented by Ballyward Parish Church to the Southern Area Hospice Services.

This was raised by a vintage road run on Wednesday, June 11. A big thanks to all who helped, attended or contributed.
