Planning underway for second Motor Show

Last year saw local man Drew Gregg instigating the show on his own assisted by a few friends and colleagues however this year the task is being taken on by the newly formed Banbridge Motor Club (details below).

The Secretary of the new club, Joanne Magennis, outlined the plans for the 2012 show, which will take place on Sunday August 5 and run from 11am-5pm. “The first Banbridge Motor and Sport Car Show last year was a great success,” she said.

“Despite the unkind weather and the fact that we were in a field some three miles out of town the response was fantastic, we had car enthusiasts, traders and spectators from all over Ireland attending.

“Out of that show some of us recognised the need for a proper Motor Club in the town and this year the Banbridge Motor Club was formed.

“We are quite excited about the show this year which is our first real venture for the Club, we have secured a great venue which is central and only one mile from the town centre.

“The Outlet Village at Bridgewater Park have kindly allowed us to use part of their site for the show and this certainly helps us to achieve one of the prime aims of our show, that being to bring new footfall into Banbridge where our visitors can not only enjoy a great show but also have the opportunity to have some retail therapy while here. “Positioned beside the shopping village visitors can enjoy all the amenities that The Outlet Village have to offer.

“Another of our aims is to raise much needed funds for the NI Chest Heart & Stroke Association so we do appeal to the business community to get on board with us and help us to achieve this.”

Joanne added, “We plan on having a mix of vehicles on show and it is open to all modified cars, cruise cars, all motorsport cars, American, classic, vintage, bikes, trikes and lorries. Really if it is a mechanised vehicle and is different from a standard showroom model then we want to have it here.

“There will be trade stands a plenty offering something different and again this year, we plan to repeat the drive-through element by allowing all the show entrants the opportunity to drive through the town centre in convoy.
