Planning a right royal occasion

ORGANISERS of an upcoming event in Dromore are hoping residents, young and old, will turn out in force to make it a right royal occasion.

Taking the lead in organising the local June 5 celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Dromore In Action teamed up with Doing It for Dromore and the Thornhill Community Association to shape the planned street party.

Banbridge District Council lent their support to the plans, pitching in with funding for the event.

Jubilee Committee chairman, Paul Crothers, said, “The celebration will take the form of a street party in Dromore Square, with the focus on family entertainment.”

For the kids, he said, there would be a bouncy castle, sumo suits, face painters, magic and puppet show, while entertainment for adults would include talented local singers Billy Savage and Sandy Shiells.

The Dromore based Blackthorn Pipers Association will be taking part, along with Skeogh Flute Band and McDonald Memorial Pipe Band.

Paul added, “We have extended a special invitation to the residents of both Skeagh house and Mountvale nursing home.”

Organisers will be providing seating for the elderly and there will be available on the day a selection of memorabilia for young and old alike.

“We are grateful to Banbridge District Council, who provided funding for the event,” said Paul, “ and of course we pray for reasonable weather on the day.”

Dromore’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration will take place in Market Square on Tuesday, June 5, from 12noon-2pm.
