Pestered police dealing with report of a sex assault

And as a result he has been banned from being in the Church Square area of the town in the early hours of the morning.

Gareth James Lynch, Primrose Gardens, Banbridge, was fined £200 for disorderly behaviour on March 15 this year.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy and bound over in the sum of £500 to keep the peace for 12 months.

The court heard that at 3.25am police were at the scene of an alleged sexual assault in Church Square, Banbridge.

They had apprehended a suspect on the Castlewellan Road when Lynch came along and was confrontational with them.

He was told to go home and walked off towards Church Square where police were dealing with the injured party.

Lynch told police ‘I’m not going anywhere’ and again confronted them. He was pushed backwards and said ‘f—k away off you, is that the best you can do?’

A solicitor representing the defendant said he had been at a charity night at the local rugby club and had been drinking for a number of hours.

He added that Lynch made his way to the town centre and it was simply a case of him being a nuisance.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, said the defendant had previous similar offences fuelled by alcohol.

As well fining Lynch and binding him over Judge Copeland prohibited him from being in Church Square between the hours of 11pm and 7am.
