Body recovered from River Bann - PSNI remain at scene - family of deceased informed

The body of man has been recovered from the River Bann at Lenaderg, Banbridge, in Co Down, it has been reported.

DUP councillor Mark Baxter said he has been speaking to the PSNI and understands that the family of the deceased has been contacted.

Police are said to be in attendance at the scene.

Lenaderg lies just north of Banbridge close to Laurencetown.

In a Facebook post, Cllr Baxter said: “Sad to learn that a body has been recovered from the River Bann near Lenaderg, has been identified and police are contacting family members.

“Thoughts and prayers with the family.”

On Tuesday, a PSNI spokesman said: “The body of a man has been recovered from the River Bann near Huntly Road, Banbridge this afternoon.

“Police do not believe the death to be suspicious at this time however enquiries are continuing.

“There are no further details at this stage.”

Speaking following the tragic news, Carla Lockhart MP said: “My thoughts are very much with the family of the deceased. This is very sad news today coming from the local community regarding the recovery of a body in the River Bann near Lenaderg.

“I have spoken with the PSNI and they have a clear line of inquiry. It is important to give the family time and space to mourn their loss and would ask for their privacy to be respected.”
