Pensioner faces trial on sex order charges

A 72-year-old man has been returned for trial to Newry Crown Court charged with five breaches of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

Robert McComb, Daisy Hill Court, Ballyvally, Banbridge, appeared on Thursday at a preliminary enquiry at Newry courthouse.

The first charge against him alleges that on June 3 this year he breached the order by being at a bus stop at school opening and closing times on the Banbridge Road, Lawrencetown.

On the same date at Banbridge Road, Lawrencetown, he is accused of being at a child centred location, namely a play park.

The third charge against him alleges that on June 4 this year at Milestone NISA store, Newry Street, Rathfriland, without reasonable excuse he had contact with children.

On the same date at Cline Road, Banbridge, he is charged with being at a child centred location, namely a play park.

The fifth charge alleges that on June 5 this year at Hillside Park, Ballyvally, without reasonable excuse he had contact with children.

All of these acts he is prohibiting from doing under the Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

McComb, who has been on remand in custody in Maghaberry prison, was returned in custody for arraignment to Newry Crown Court on October 8.
