Pat on head for Dino as suspect is collared

There was a pat on the back for the public and a pat on the head for police dog Dino after they helped officers collar alleged thieves near The Outlet in Banbridge on Thursday.

An member of the public helped detain one of the suspects, while Dino chased another near the busy shopping complex.

The drama unfolded when a member of the public called in to report a number of alleged shoplifters spotted in the area

While a crew from Portadown headed over to assist, a crew from Banbridge PSNI arrived within a minute.

Two of the three suspects, made off when the police arrived.

Amember of the public having helped detain one of the suspects, Dino arrived and chased down the other.

On Banbridge PSNI Facebook, the police posted, “Our final suspect blatantly doesn’t follow our Facebook or he’d be aware of the efficiency of our dog section and wouldn’t have bothered wasting his energy.

“All it meant was that he got arrested tired and sweaty.

“Dino picked up his favourite scent quickly, ‘Eau De Crim’, pointing the pursuing officers in the right direction and leading to a quick third arrest.

“We can’t thank our reporting and arrest assisting member of the public enough on your behalf.

“A massive effort from a guy who really stepped up for his town.

“Two males and a female were arrested for several offences including theft, handling stolen goods, obstructing police and driving with no insurance.

“Their vehicle was also seized. They were later charged.

“Thanks to the quick thinking and actions of our local hero, plus some great teamwork, the £1000 worth of goods were all recovered and are all fit for resale.”

Police are urging people to contact the police if they suspect suspicious activity.

“Keep phoning in suspicious activity and we will keep getting great results,” they posted on Facebook.

“Top work from our local hero and top work from Dino.”
