Kennedy Walker, Whyte Acres, Banbridge, was fined £250, ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy and given six points for the no insurance offence.

He was fined £50 for parking within the limits of a pelican crossing.

The court heard that on March 22 this year at 6.40pm a police patrol saw a vehicle parked on a zebra crossing at Scarva Street in Banbridge.

The area was busy with traffic and a number of people were using the crossing.

Walker said he had been doing a drop in the fish and chip shop which was just yards away.

He attended at the police station on March 28 with an insurance certificate which had come into effect shortly afterwards.

It was not valid on the day of the offence.

Mr Paddy Moriarty, representing the defendant, said that Walker called in to the chip shop to leave a present for someone who worked there.

He added that his insurance ran out in February and was overlooked due to a family illness at the time.

Mr Moriarty said his client got insurance the following day.
