Parents of kids with educational needs encouraged to Connect

LOCAL support group Connect is holding an information and support evening on Tuesday for parents of children with additional educational and support needs.

The group’s founders, Niamh Shiells and Judith Clarke, invite local parents to The Bowling Pavilion at Dromore Leisure Centre at 7.30pm.

With the long summer school break approaching, for many parents of children with additional needs this is a time of extra stress and pressure. Children out of routine and without the normal specialist support and stimulation, they get through school, can be extremely difficult to occupy and keep content during the long break.

All this can add extreme stress to parents, many with very little access to respite and normal support services over the summer break.

Connect is offering parents a unique opportunity to learn some new stress relief skills through the wonderful benefits of laughter yoga.

Niamh Shiells from the group says, “ You may well laugh, but laughter Yoga is sweeping the world and has been scientifically proven to reduce blood pressure and depression, boost immunity and relaxation, reduce stress and weight, increase energy, increase feelings of wellbeing and even make you more attractive – yes, happy people appeal to others.

“I attended one of these sessions last year in Dublin and it was truly hilarious and relaxing all at the same time and the effects really stayed with me. If you have not joined us at a Connect meeting yet this year, this is one definitely not to be missed.“

Judith Clarke added, “We are delighted to be welcoming George Kelly a professional certified laughter yoga leader all the way from Wexford who is gifting his time to come and give our parents an introduction to laughter yoga and stress relief.

“This promises to be a great night for connect parents, current and new and George will be sharing a range of tips on how parents can stay relaxed and take care of themselves over the long summer break”

All parents and others interested are welcome to attend The Bowling Pavilion at Dromore Leisure Centre at 7.30pm on Tuesday June 26. Please contact Judith Clarke on 07764 200870 if you wish to attend or for more information about the group. You can also visit Connect on Facebook.
