Dromore Nursery School pupils and their parents have recently enjoyed a series of events including an Action Cancer Puppet Show, a table quiz and a welcome back for three former pupils.

Proud winners last year of a Gold Award’ from the Action Cancer Health Promotion Award Scheme, the school recently reinforced the healthy living message with a visit from the Action Cancer Travelling Puppet Show .

Principal, Mrs Sharon Beattie, explained staff and pupils had travelled to the Titanic Quarter to receive their award last year.

She added: An aspect of this work includes raising children’s awareness of their own health needs and promoting a healthy lifestyle at an age-appropriate level.

“We have already introduced a healthy snack and dinner routine and further supported this work with a visit from the Action Cancer Travelling Puppet Show Heroes Quest to save the Magical Kingdom.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed this experience and alongside the fun they got a message about living a healthy lifestyle.” The school also donated £100 to Action Cancer.

Meanwhile, in a first for the nursery, it also recently welcomed back three past pupils - Courtney Oldham, Finley Hooke and Amy Clarke - on work experience from Dromore High School.

“It was great to hear them reflect on their experiences at nursery school and the changes they identified,” said Mrs Beattie. “The girls shadowed staff and learnt about the role of teacher and nursery assistants over their time at the school.

“It is a privilege to have work experience students from all spheres of education, to showcase best practice to the future generation of educators. We now look forward to opening our doors to Stranmillis students next term.”

Another event for the nursery was a table quiz in aid of school funds.

Said Mrs Beattie: “The table quiz was also a means for parents to get to know each other in a social setting.

“Mr Gary Barlow, assisted by Nathan Barlow, acted as quizmaster and veryone had their general knowledge tested. . .

“ . . .It was a great night which raised £227 for school funds.
