‘Outstanding’ report for Dromara Pre-School

Julie Corbett, said that the report highlighted the main strengths of the Pre-School including ‘the continued commitment of her staff, the well-established positive relationship with parents and the strong links with the primary school and strong belief in the importance of a positive Early Years Educational experience for children where they are valued and respected at all times.’

The report carried out by the Education and Training Inspectorate observed teaching and learning through play, the children’s achievements and standards, scrutinised relevant documentation and held formal and informal discussions with children, and staff.

The report praised the leader for bringing, a high level of experience and expertise to the leadership role who has a clear vision for the future development of the Pre-School.

It described her as being ‘well supported by a very skilled staff team’ and a strong sense of collegiality permeates throughout the setting evidenced by the excellent relationships at all levels.

Principal Andrew Armstrong said that the staff of Dromara and Pre-School have an ‘infectious commitment’ and ‘passion for their work’ and said that they deserve the ‘highest praise.’

“The outstanding inspection report achieved by Dromara Pre­School is not only a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff, but also to the boys and girls who give so much to their pre­school education and to the level of parental support which is so evident,” Mr Armstrong said.

“Particular tribute must be paid to Mrs Corbett, the Dromara Pre School Leader, whose unerring dedication, energy and enthusiasm has helped provide the best possible start in education for the children.

“Indeed, all of the staff share this infectious commitment and passion for their work and deserve the highest praise.

“Sincere congratulations to everyone at Dromara Pre-­School from all in Dromara Primary School, where we endeavour to build upon the solid foundations already laid.”

Among some of the key findings of the inspection: The staff have created a stimulating, welcoming and inclusive environment where routines were well established. The children were confident in engaging with adults and visitors and displayed a high level ofindependence.

The children respected each other’s views and ideas and were able to take turn and share resources. The development of early language and mathematical sills is given a high priority leading to the children demonstrating a very goodunderstanding of key mathematical concepts.

They demonstrated a keen interest in books with children browsing in the attractive book corner and listening attentively at story time. Planning is developed and is differentiated to meet the range of abilities in both sessions.

A Dromara Pre-School and Playgroup principal has praised the work of his staff and pupils following a recent ‘Outstanding’ inspection report.

The overall performance, achievements and standards and provision of the school were all described as ‘outstanding’ in the report.

Among some of the other key findings of the report were that the staff created a ‘stimulating, welcoming and inclusive environment’ where routines were well established.

“The children were confident in engaging with adults and visitors and displayed a high level ofindependence,” the report stated.

“The children respected each other’s views and ideas and were able to take turn and share resources.

“The development of early language and mathematical skills is given a high priority leading to the children demonstrating a very good understanding of key mathematical concepts.

“They demonstrated a keen interest in books with children browsing in the attractive book corner and listening attentively at story time.

“The recently appointed leader Mrs Julie Corbett, brings a high level of experience and expertise to the leadership role and has a clear vision for the future development of the Pre-School.

“She is well supported by a very skilled staff team and a strong sense of collegiality permeates throughout the setting evidenced by the excellent relationships at all levels.”

The report also concluded, “The playgroup has demonstrated its capacity for sustained self–improvement.”

There are currently 34 children who attend the school per day - 18 at the morning session while 14 go to the afternoon session.
