Oustanding success at Academy

BANBRIDGE Academy principal Raymond Pollock congratulated his pupils on another "oustanding" performance in their GCSE results this year.

“One hundred and eighty-six candidates took GCSE examinations and once again obtained outstanding results,” said Mr Pollock. “The pass rate was 95.3 per cent with 21.7 per cent of entries resulting in a grade A* which gave a combined A*/A total of an impressive 53.9 per cent.

“Over ninety-five per cent of entrants gained five or more GCSE passes at A*-C including English and Mathematics and when the more rigorous Government target of seven or more passes at A*-C including English and Maths, is considered the figure sits at 92.5 per cent.

“Forty-one students scored A* or A grades in all nine subjects they attempted, representing 22 per cent of the total year group and for three pupils, Clare Bell, Kane Hunter and Lauren Murphy it was a case of A* s in every subject.

“We congratulate our pupils on their excellent achievements. Their hard work has paid off and they can justifiably be pleased with the fruits of their endeavours. Parents are to be commended too because although they didn’t take the examinations they certainly created the necessary conditions of support and encouragement at home for success to be nurtured. The teaching staff of the Academy deserve great credit for once again preparing our pupils for these public examinations. Over many years now they have consistently and diligently enabled our pupils to achieve their potential and I congratulate them on another year in which they have produced superb results at all levels.”
