In a statement the Order said, “Stephen McKee was a member of Carlingford Lough LOL 210, Warrenpoint.

“We have always encouraged our members to join the security forces and serve our country at home and abroad.

“Although Stephen died far from home he was serving his country and protecting democracy just as much as if he had been killed on the streets of Northern Ireland. We are proud of young men like Stephen but at this tragic time our thoughts are with his family and we extend our deepest sympathy to them.”

On Thursday night local and senior members of the Orange Order, including the Grand Secretary Drew Nelson, visited the McKee family home to offer their sympathy on the death of Lance Corporal McKee.
