Resident welcomes DUP stance on Hillhall application

Having read the article on the proposed planning application for social housing on the site of the former Hillhall Primary School, as a life long resident in the area, I wish to congratulate the DUP Councillors’ stance on referring the application to the Management Board owing to a number of concerns.

The DUP Councillors have taken the common sense approach on this matter as this road deemed now a main arterial road to and from Belfast and beyond, cannot simply cope with the volume of traffic and further development would be catastrophic for residents.

I note UUP Councillor Crawford leading the objection to this referral - what planet is he living on? Is he not aware of the residents’ concerns on future development and road issues? But after all he does not represent the people of this area and it suggests to me Mr. Crawford is using this issue to bash other fellow unionists.

Is this the same Mr. Crawford who during the recent council election campaign called for better co-operation between his party and the DUP for the benefit of the people and the city? Maybe he should remind himself of what he said and better still acquaint himself with the concerns before using the issue as a political tool.
