Old Bann Road improvements welcomed

Upper Bann MLA Jo-Anne Dobson and Roads Minister Danny Kennedy have welcomed improvements under way at Donaghcloney’s Old Bann Road/ Tullyraine Road junction.

The work will realign the Old Bann Road junction, making it square to the main road and improving visibility for vehicles entering and exiting.

Fearing an acident, residents raised with the UUP’s Mrs Dobson concerns about the need for motorists to pull out too far into the road when turning right.

They also voiced concerns for children crossing the road to get to the bus-stop, given that the main Tullyraine Road is a 60mph stretch and the junction is about half way along a straight, therefore fast, section of the road.

Mrs Dobson said: “I very much welcome this road improvement scheme which will make it much safer for traffic entering and exiting the road at this junction.

“Concerns had been raised with me by local residents and I requested that an assessment of the junction be undertaken.

“I am pleased Transport NI listened to and recognised these concerns and have made improvements which include a new exit and also a bus stop.

“The junction is particularly busy with local businesses and farmers and also during the annual Gospel Fest, is one of the largest gospel music festivals in the British Isles.”
