O’Donnell concerned about Skeoge flags

SDLP Councillor Mark O’Donnell has called for the removal of flags which have been erected on the Skeoge roundabout in the past week.

He said: “Myself and my council colleagues have fielded a number of complaints about these flags from concerned constituents.

“We feel that as we promote Derry as a shared city moving forward these flags can be seen as alienating, intimidating and are not representative of the community as a whole.”

The flags Mr O’Donnell is referring to include those bearing the name of the Irish Republican Socialist Party (IRSP).

“We will be raising the issue again with relevant stakeholders at the local Community Safety Team within the coming days,” he said.

He concluded: “This is not really an image of Derry that we want to send out on one of the major corridors into the city and we are hopeful that there will be a united community response to this issue.”
