Highly respected in the community

Profound sorrow spread over a wide area when it was learned of the passing of Sarah Jane Cowan which took place at Rathfriland Manor Nursing Home on Friday 6th November.

Formerly Miss Jean Crothers she was the dearly loved wife of the late Samuel J. Cowan O.B.E of ‘Diamond Lodge’ Scarva and the dear mother of Brian, Shirley and the late Elizabeth and
Muriel.

Jean was a woman of a cheery and friendly disposition and was highly respected in the
community.

She was a great stalwart to her husband who was heavily involved in the Ulster Unionist Party, especially when he was Chairman of Banbridge District
Council.

She was a member of Fourtowns Presbyterian Church and P.W but her main interest was centred around her home and family.

She is survived by son Brian, daughter Shirley, sons-in-law John and Ron, daughter-in-law Eleanor, grandchildren David, Alison, Mark and Melissa, great grandchildren Jodie, Alana, Christopher, Sarah, Alice, William and
Harley.

To these and all other relatives sincere sympathy has been extended.

The funeral took place on Monday 9th November from her home at ‘Diamond Lodge’ to Fourtowns Presbyterian Church.

The service at the home and church was conducted by the Rev. Mark Wilson and the interment took place afterwards in the adjoining churchyard.

Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers to be sent to William Bell and Co. Funeral Directors, who had charge of the funeral arrangements 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR for Macmillan Nurses.
