Guard of honour byschool at funeral

St Patrick’s College performed a guard of honour at the recent funeral of former staff member Philomena Chambers, who passed away at the Southern Area Hospice on Sunday January 11.

Mrs Chambers, of Edenderry Park in Banbridge, was the dear mum of Stephen and Leanne and mother-in-law of Grainne and grandmother of Aoife.

For many years she was employed at St Patrick’s College on the Scarva Road and won for herself the respect and confidence of teachers and pupils alike. She was also employed at The Enterprise Centre.

In her spare time, she loved needlework and enjoyed going out dancing, frequenting the Mourne Country Hotel in Newry. She enjoyed country and western music and going up to Donegal to enjoy a weekend there.

She is survived by her son, daughter, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, two brothers Colin and Kieran, three sisters Theresa, Carmel and Kathleen. To these and all other relatives sincere sympathy has been extended.

She attended Mass in St Therese Church. Her funeral, which was largely attended, took place from her home on Wednesday January 14 for Requiem Mass in St Therese Church which was celebrated by Father Stephen Crossan.

He mentioned in the course of his homily about the way that Dr Logan and the staff of Craigavon Area Hospital and the Southern Area Hospice had looked after Mrs Chambers.

The burial took place afterwards in St Patrick’s cemetery. Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co. Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR for The Southern Area Hospice.

William Bell and Co. had charge of the funeral arrangements.
