A novel weekend at Castle Ward annual Book Fair

Spend a relaxing afternoon at Castle Ward, Strangford, Downpatrick, browsing thousands of quality used books and other treasures at this year’s annual Book Fair, which runs from 11am to 5pm on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November.

This is an excellent opportunity for bibliophiles to add to their own shelves as a plethora of books are on offer from children’s titles and biographies, to DIY favourites and all time classis. Visitors can also bargain hunt for old vinyl and CDs.

The Castle Ward mansion is open for free public tours, with a special highlight being a talk by Edwina Penge on some of the important books housed in the Castle Ward library. Spaces for the talk are limited and tickets can be collected from the mansion house.

Come and select from an abundance of pre-loved books on the day and make room for your new purchases by donating books, records, CDs, DVDs, games and puzzles in advance.

All proceeds of the Book Fair and bookshop, run entirely by volunteers, go towards maintaining this historic property for the enjoyment of the public, one of Northern Ireland’s finest notable houses and scenic countryside estates.

Castle Ward’s gift shop is open both days with some great Christmas gifts available. A selection of homemade soups, scones and cakes are on offer in the tea room, along with tea and coffee.

Children can enjoy the adventure and woodland playgrounds, Victorian children’s playroom, and the barn with its indoor and outdoor play areas. The property’s network of trails is also open for walking and cycling.

Normal admission charges apply, members free. For further information and to make book donations to the Book Fair please contact Castle Ward directly on
