Turning to the air-waves, a new Community Radio Station will go fully live from October 1, broadcasting from the E2A premises.

The registered charity, which welcomes people of all ages both with and without a disability, felt radio was a perfect extension of their work.

Stewart Penn, station programmer said: “We felt it was a great opportunity for people with and without disabilities to do this form of entertaining.

“The great thing about radio is people are completely focused on your voice - they don’t see you or a disability.”

The opportunity arose from the closure of Banbridge’s Shine FM, who approached E2A with an offer of their equipment.

“The shows are filling up quickly and we plan to broadcast 24 hours a day, but live from 10am to 10pm.

“It’s our intention to take the radio out to local events, schools and groups to make sure the whole community is fully represented, plus with being online, it means Banbridge people worldwide can tune in.

“The best thing about community radio is that unlike commercial stations who aim to keep their listeners all day, we’re not afraid to offer a wide variety of programmes recognising that our listeners will come and go - but there will be something for everybody.

“Our shows include Irish country with Sean Greene, Saturday morning sports review with Ruairi White, Sunday evening gospel presented by Myrna Kelly, Rewind (70s80s90s) music presented by Paul Suckling, Myth Busters with Kevin Carter, Musicals and Musicals with myself plus many more speciality programmes, storytelling, a daily play for today, even a pre-clubbing live mix with two local DJs every Saturday evening.

“We’re always looking for new presenters and we can offer opportunities for work experience and volunteering.”
