Nationalist politicians in Mid Ulster have reacted to the death of former Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.

Paying tribute to his party colleague, local MP Francie Molloy offered his condolences and sympathies to the family.

Mr Molloy said, “It was with great sadness that I heard the news of Martin’s passing, he was a very close friend and colleague, he will be deeply missed. To his family I send my heartfelt sympathies.”

Party leader Michelle O'Neill said: "My heart is broke this morning. We have lost legend, a giant of a man. I'm very proud to say he was my friend and mentor."

Ian Milne tweeted: "We have lost a leader and a friend. My thoughts are with Bernie, with their children and all his family."

And Linda Dillon remarked: "We have lost comrade and a friend our hearts are broken for Bernie and their lovely family."

The SDLP's Patsy McGlone expressed his condolences to the McGuinness family.

“Throughout his time as an MLA and MP for Mid Ulster, I always found Martin to be an approachable constituency colleague determined to advance the peace process and work in partnership to help the people we represented," he said.
