Mr Simpson thanked the Upper Bann general public for their generous donations to local charities over the last decade.

His sit-out has been held every year in Portadown, Lurgan and Banbridge in the lead up to Christmas and this year’s fundraising efforts have brought the total to over £30,000 during the 10 year period.

“I am always overwhelmed by the generosity and shear good will of the people of this great constituency,” said David.

“With all the financial pressures home owners are facing, it never ceases to amaze me just how giving people are.

“It has been an honour to host my sit out for the last 10 years and if the Lord spares me I will endeavour to continue these efforts well into the future.

“I speak on behalf of the numerous charities when I say a massive thank you for the consistent and kind donations of the people to these worthy causes.

“Despite the cold weather, this year alone we raised over £3,000 for three worthy causes Donard and Ceara Special Schools and the Mandeville Unit at Craigavon Hospital.

“I am indebted to the work of these organisations and I wish them well on their future efforts within our area.”
