anger that more is not being done to put a stop to the problem.

The Banbridge woman, who is not being named to protect the identity of her daughter, was distraught when she discovered the comments which she said “slated” her 13 year old.

When she contacted the local PSNI she was told that ‘there was not much they could do about it’. The case was referred to the e-crime unit however.

“It’s a disgrace that more is not being done about this,” she said. “These are the kind of things that end up with a child on the end of a rope, and action needs to be taken before something like this happens.”

The mother became aware of the comments posted about her daughter after she was alerted to the website’s existence by a friend and went on to check it out.

“God help her” said her mother, “for they have

really slated her on it.

“I don’t know if she knows about it, I’m sure she probably does, but I’ve kept it from her for she is so sensitive.

“I don’t believe the children who post these comments about others don’t realise what they’re doing or think they are doing it for a joke. They are vindictive and nasty and they know what they are doing. It’s not a laugh and action needs to be taken to stop it.”

Banbridge PSNI said: “If a report is made to us regarding information posted on social media sites officers will investigate and where a criminal offence has occurred, appropriate action will be taken”.
