Monkstown man fined for littering from his car

A MONKSTOWN man who threw rubbish out of his car on the Shore Road has been fined £60 for littering.

On Monday evening, members of Newtownabbey Council’s Environment Committee were informed that on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Laganside Magistrates Court, Mr Paul Knell, of Cloyne Crescent, was charged with being a person who deposited litter into the open air from a motor vehicle on April 11, 2012 at Shore Road, Newtownabbey.

Mr Knell did not appear in court and was fined £60 and ordered to pay costs of £101.

Meanwhile, the committee was informed that between November 24 and December 23 last year, the council issued three fixed-penalty notices for littering: one to an individual for allowing their dog to stray; and seven to dog owners for failing to have a valid licence.

During the same period, the local authority pursued one prosecution for littering and one against a dog owner for having no licence.
