Moneyslane Community hub gets funding

Moneyslane Community Centre is to receive £100,000 funding from the Rural Development Programme.

Members of Down Rural Area Partnership’s (DRAP) Local Action Group and Joint Council Committee recently visited Moneyslane Community Hub.

This is one of many projects to have received funding from the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme (NIRDP) which has seen more than £11million committed to projects aimed at improving the quality of life in rural communities in all four council areas of Banbridge, Down, Ards and North Down.

The Community Hub at Moneyslane will offer a multi-purpose, community accessible, social and recreational centre for the local community and surrounding rural area.

The impressive centre, which received approximately £100,000 of funding under Measure 3.4 Basic Services for the Economy and Rural Population, will provide changing facilities for sports teams, meeting rooms for local groups and will host Zumba and Spin classes for those who are keep-fit enthusiasts.

David Kerr, Chair of the Local Action Group commented, “We are hopeful that this multi-purpose Community Hub will enable the local community to have a focal point and to engage in a full range of social and well-being enhancing activities.”

The Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 is part financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD); Down Rural Area Partnership had an allocation of £13.5 million.
