Missing woman located

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the discovery of a crashed car, at the entrance to Portstewart Strand, caused a full-scale search operation to be mounted.

Whenthe driver could not be located, the PSNI began a search of the beach and called for Coastguard assistance.

Coastguard search teams were deployed immediately along the coast, while both Portrush Lifeboats were launched to search offshore.

Additional Police units and personnel from Community Rescue were also deployed.

Shortly afterwards, the search was joined by the Irish Coast Guard Helicopter, Rescue 118, which carried out a meticulous sweep from the Barmouth to Ramore Head, Portrush.

Fortunately, the PSNI was later able to confirm that the missing woman had been located safely.
