Minister’s planned Hillsborough visit welcomed amid road safety fears

LAGAN Valley MLA Brenda Hale has revisited what she calls ‘the road traffic issues that plague Hillsborough village and the surrounding areas’ after a recent traffic accident outside Downshire Primary School.

The DUP’s Mrs. Hale said the accident had left Hillsborough residents deeply shocked.

“Having spoken with the PSNI and Ambulance staff at the scene,” she said, “I am thankful that there were no fatalities. I hope that those involved in the accident have a speedy recovery.

“Since my election in May 2011 I have constantly lobbied the DRD Minister, Danny Kennedy, on the road traffic issues that plague Hillsborough village and the surrounding areas.

“I welcome that the DRD Minister has agreed to visit Hillsborough to view the issues for himself and hopefully work towards solutions for the residents in the area.”

Mrs. Hale said residents of Hillsborough and the Culcavy Road area had become increasingly frustrated at “the inaction” of the Department of Regional Development.

“We hope,” she said, “that the DRD Minister will take on board the concerns of the Hillsborough community, who want to see a long-term solution to the outstanding issues, not a quick-fix.

“We need a solution that meets the future needs of the local community, whilst facilitating access to this beautiful conservation area.”
