During the meeting, facilitated by DUP MLA Carla Lockhart, the Minister discussed the key issue of town centre regeneration and the public realm works which are actively being pursued.

Speaking after the visit, Carla Lockhart said: “I am delighted that the Minister was able to make the time to visit the area and meet with Banbridge Chamber. It was a great opportunity for the local traders to put forward their views and express where they believe improvements can be made.”

The DUP representative added: “I have been lobbying on behalf of Banbridge to ensure a major public realm scheme is secured for the Main Street and as a result of this the Minister has said he will help make funding available when a scheme has been proposed by the local council.

“I will also be working with the Minister and Chamber of Trade to attract new businesses to the area. There is also ongoing work with regards to the old health centre site, with creative new plans which will benefit the whole town in the process of being worked up. I look forward to seeing Banbridge continuing with its vibrant and unique mix of family owned and run businesses.”
