Mercer reminds farmers of DARD consultation

DROMORE Councillor Olive Mercer is this week reminding local farmers that DARD is seeking their views on its proposals for managing separate claimants to the Single Farm payment Scheme and the Less Favoured Areas Compensatory Allowances Scheme on a single land parcel.

She said, “Such dual use claims have existed in Northern Ireland since the start of the SFP Scheme in 2005. In the 2007/8 EU Area Aids Audit (and repeated in the 2009 Audit) the EU Commission raised objections to DARD’s approach to dual use claims. “These dual use claims are not permitted in Scotland and Ireland whilst in England and Wales enhanced controls have been introduced.

“DARD is now proposing to introduce a workable control mechanism which will demonstrate that the separate claimants to the SFP and LFACA Schemes on a single land parcel are meeting their respective Scheme obligations.”
