McGrath’s Pub closes after 15 years

A WELL-KNOWN Banbridge bar has served its last pint after a decision to close due to dwindling trade.

McGrath’s pub in Rathfriland Street pulled down the shutters last week after 15 years in business in the town.

Owner Tom McGrath said times were tough and trade had quietened down leaving him no choice but to close the bar.

Tom, aged 52, ran the bar with his brother Kevin before he passed away eight years ago. Their parents Kitty and Mickey ran The Thoroughfare in Newry Street before them.

Tom said many regular customers were upset to see the bar close, and thanked them for their loyal custom through the years.
