McCallister welcome for new footpath

UUP MLA John McCallister has welcomed news that work will start before Christmas to replace a footpath near Glasker Mills.

Mr McCallister said he was “delighted” to receive a commitment from Roads Service to carry out the work on the footpath which runs from Toal’s shop to Bronte Primary School.

“This was brought to my attention by local constituents, many of them parents of young children who found it almost impossible to walk along the footpath,” he said. “It was overgrown, covered in weeds and grass and the surface was badly broken in places.

“It really was not fit for purpose and I asked the local DRD Southern Division to consider re-surfacing it.”

Mr McCallister also claimed that during recent heavy rain the path was completely flooded.

He added, “Glasker Mills is now recognised as an up-and-coming rural community, with more and more families moving to the area. I have often watched parents struggle to push a pram or buggy along this path, forcing them to walk on the road which is far from ideal.

“Keen walkers will also benefit from an improved footpath at this location.”
