McCallister calls for Assembly reform

John McCallister MLA, Independent Unionist for South Down, has met with Secretary of State Theresa Villiers, to discuss his Private Member’s Bill on reforming the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Speaking after the meeting Mr McCallister said: “It is clear that the Northern Ireland Executive is in crisis. ,

“The people of South Down deserve a Government focused on Health, education and jobs.”

“In a productive discussion with the Secretary of State I outlined the main objectives of my Private Member’s Bill and the potential it has for becoming a focal point for debate and a vehicle for meaningful change.

“Going forward I am meeting with Party leaders throughout the Assembly with a view to progressing my Bill and this vitally important discussion.
