Man’s body found at Bann towpath

A man’s body has been found on the Bann towpath in Portadown this afternoon.

It is believed the body was discovered by members of a summer scheme.

Lord Mayor Councillor Darryn Causby said, “These are desperately sad circumstances and my thoughts and prayers are with this man’s family.

“My thoughts are also with those who found the man’s body, and the council staff have acted very professionally in difficult circumstances in terms of looking after the children who were there. They will be liaising with parents and the health trust to ensure that the children receive access to counselling.”

Almost 30 children are thought to have been taking part in the scheme.

A police spokeswoman said, “Police in Portadown received a report of the sudden death of a man in the Meadow Lane area around 1.20pm on Thursday, July 23.

“There are no further details at this stage.”
