Man used his mobile phone while driving

Three penalty points were imposed on a 43-year-old man last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for using a mobile phone while driving.

Darren Martin, Hillhead Drive, Banbridge, was also fined £90 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 2.30pm he was seen using his mobile phone while driving a van onto the Rathfriland Road.

A solicitor said that he had just been to visit his mother who had a growth on her lung and his mind was ‘a bit absent’ at the time.

She added that he was ‘remorseful and embarrassed’ and there were six relevant points on his licence.
