Man had a cannabis joint

A Banbridge man caught in possession of a Cannabis joint, appeared before the local court last week and was fined £75.

Daniel McAreavey (45) from Brookfield Meadows was also told to pay an offenders levy of £15.

He came to police attention on 28 January at 10.15pm at the Scarva Road filling station.

Officers noted that he appeared nervous and agitated and they decided to search his vehicle.

The joint was found in the centre console. During interview McAreavey made full admission.

A solicitor said his client had recently found himself unemployed after working 24 years in the same job.

He said McAreavey became depressed around the time of the offence.
