Man caught using his mobile phone

A 25-year-old man was disqualified from driving for 14 days last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court.

Aaron Weir, Frazer Park, Annaclone, admitted using a mobile phone while driving on February 11. As well as the ban he was fined £80 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard he was seen using the phone while driving on the Lurgan Road, Banbridge. A solicitor representing the defendant said he already had six points on his licence.

He explained that on the day in question he had been expecting a call from the hospital because his mother-in-law was ill.

The solicitor said Weir took the phone and handed it to his partner. He added that the defendant’s partner did not drive and asked the court to impose a short period of disqualification.

District Judge, Mr Alan White, said he thought this was reasonable and banned the defendant for 14 days.
