Man banned for six months

Mark Toner, Brookfield Meadows, Banbridge, admitted driving without having insurance on September 7 this year.

He was fined £150, ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy and given six points.

With six points already on his licence this brought his total to 12 and an automatic six month ban.

The court heard that he was stopped while driving on the Scarva Road, Banbridge, and police inquiries revealed he was not insured to drive the vehicle.

Toner maintained he was insured and was asked to produce his insurance to police. It transpired he was not covered.

Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said this was Toner’s grandfather’s vehicle and he had been properly insured.

He explained that the defendant’s mother added his sister on to the insurance and unfortunately the insurance company believed that Toner was going off the policy with the sister going on.
