Man (71) caused accident and then drove off from the scene

After causing a road accident a 71-year-old man refused to give his details and drove off, Banbridge Magistrates Court heard last Thursday.

William Perry McKee, Aughnacloy Road, Banbridge, admitted driving without due care and attention on January 8, failing to remain at the scene and failing to report an accident.

The court heard that around 11.15am the injured party was driving at Oakdale when a vehicle, coming from the opposite direction, encroached on his side of the road. The two vehicles collided.

The injured party asked the defendant to stay but he tried to leave. The injured party stood in front of his vehicle.

McKee refused to give his details and the victim called the police. The defendant spoke to police on the phone.

McKee then kicked debris from the collision onto the other side of the road and drove off.

Police called at his home address but he could not be located. He was interviewed at a later date and the phone call replayed to him.

The case until May 14 for a pre-sentence report.
