Maeve releases her special charity single

Annaclone singer Maeve Farrell has released a charity single for The Emily Wallace Fund for the Childrens Cancer Unit Charity.

Maeve has released her Gospel inspired single, ‘Light In The Darkness – Gospel Medley’, with all proceeds going to The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity, Belfast.

Maeve commented: “I feel privileged that I’m able to do this for the charity. I’m in a privileged position to have to support of my parents to record my album and single and I want to give something back.

“The charity are the ones who arrange the play therapists and music therapists for the children to help them cope with what they are going through.

“In most cases the children are in isolation for a couple of weeks a months, not able to be with their families, so they give them toys and things to do to keep them active.”

The local singer said she would ‘100 per cent’ encourage local people to buy the charity single.

“It is a gospel song, really, it’s available on itunes and it can be bought in Lisliggan Stores, Annaclone, Walshs Newsagents, Banbridge and Milestone Rathfriland.”

The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity is instrumental in setting up the Children’s Cancer Unit at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

They are dedicated to the ongoing funding of the unit.

Each year they are committed to contributing at least £150,000 by way of donations.

This year The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity hopes to raise £1 million to extend the haematology unit for children with infections and require isolation rooms.

The Children’s Cancer and Haematology Unit cares for children up to the age of 16 with cancer and blood disorders.

Around 50 new patients with malignant conditions are seen every year.

A similar number are assessed for benign conditions such as sickle cell and low blood count.
