Lurgan murder victim is named

Police have named the man whose body was found at a house in the Taghnevan area of Lurgan on Thursday afternoon (March 9).

Detectives from PSNI Serious Crime Branch are conducting a murder investigation following the discovery of 29-year-old Paul Gerard Curran at Manor Drive in the town.

Detective Chief Inspector Eamonn Corrigan said: “Paul’s body was discovered inside the house shortly after 2.50pm on Thursday afternoon.

“A post mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of death and two men and a woman, all aged in their 30s, remain in police custody at this time in relation to the investigation.

“I continue to appeal to anyone with any information which could assist us with our enquiries to contact detectives in Lurgan on 101 quoting reference number 639 09/03/17. Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Sinn Féin Councillor Liam Mackle said he was shocked and saddened at the sudden death.

Cllr Mackle said: “The news of this sudden death has caused great sadness in the local community. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family.

“Rather than add to their distress through speculation, I would appeal to anyone with any information which could assist the PSNI to bring it forward.”

Upper Bann DUP MLA Carla Lockhart also expressed her sympathies, “To have a young life cut short in such circumstances is shocking and a cause of concern to the wider community of Lurgan.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family who received the news.”

UUP MLA Doug Beattie said, “It is with shock, and sadness, that I learn of the loss of young man’s life in Lurgan.

“Circumstances are uncertain at this time, however, it remains that a family is left in mourning and my condolences are with them as they face the times ahead.”

The SDLP councillor Declan McAlinden, “Another tragic death in Lurgan. Thoughts and prayers go out to the Curran family and friends of the young man.”
