Bobby as he was affectionately known to all his friends and acquaintances was the dearly loved husband of June who passed away just seven months ago.

He was the dear father of Robert, Bill andTerry and had lived most of his life at 6 Edenderry Gardens, Banbridge and brought up the family there.

He sustained a great loss with the passing of Bill’s wife Hazel as did all the family.

A man of many sterling qualities he was held in the highest esteem.

He was a textile worker in the Linen Trade having worked in Cowdy’s Linen Factory and after its closure he went to work in the Optical Factory and then returned as Security of the Water Board Offices and then to DownShoes as security before he retired.

He was a keen fisherman and was competition secretary of Banbridge Angling Club for a number of years and was still president of the club at the time of his passing.

He was a keen supporter and was an honorary member of Banbridge Town Football Club and loved watching Northern Ireland. He was really interested in all sports and was very keen in supporting his granddaughter Mandy and was very keen in her athletic achievements.

As a boy he joined Seapatrick Flute Band and showed a keen interest in the band for over 60 years but his main interest was centred around his home and family and it is there that his passing will be mostly felt.

He enjoyed going with his wife June on holiday and had visited Paris and the Somme battlefields in France.

He also enjoyed the Victoria Club in Banbridge Orange Hall on a Thursday. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish Church.

He is survived by three sons, two daughters-in-law Liz and Linda, grandchildren Lindsay, Rob, Mandy, Christopher, Zoe and Clare and great grandchildren Poppy, Tori and Lauren, also sisters Elsie, Lottie, Annie and June. To these and all other relatives sincere sympathy has been extended.

The funeral took place from his home on Tuesday for a service in Holy Trinity Parish Church which was filled to capacity, the congregation heard the Rev. Rosie Diffin pay a fitting tribute to the esteem in which Bobby was held.

It was fitting that one of the men he encouraged Mr. George Rice played ‘You Raised Me Up’ as the coffin was carried into the church and the ‘Londonderry Air’ he played on the flute as the coffin was carried out.

The hymns ‘On A Hill Far Away Stood An Old Rugged Cross’ and ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ were sung. Mr. Tom Haire presided at the organ. The interment took place afterwards in the New Cemetery. Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co. Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR for The Southern Area Hospice (Cheques made payable to William Bell and Co.)
