Loutish behaviour of woman who kicked officer is slammed

A JUDGE has slammed a Ballymena woman's "loutish" behaviour after she kicked a police officer on the shin during a struggle.

Donna McElroy (42), of Broadway Avenue, was bound over to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for 18 months, after admitting an assault charge when she appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

The court was told that McElroy had been removed from licensed premises at Church Street on July 14 after she become argumentative with staff.

As police escorted her from the premises, she was swearing at officers and kicked out, striking an officer on the shin.

Solicitor Stephen McCann said that McElroy is a “model citizen” when sober but added that he had endured problems with alcohol.

Binding her over, on her own bail of 250, District Judge Des Perry told McElroy: “I don’t expect you to not drink but just try to go home quietly.

“There will come a time when the courts get tired of this,” he added.
