The court heard how David Stephen Lyness (45) from Rathview had cancelled his insurance policy after another vehicle he owned was burned out.

District Judge Mr Copeland said the court could deal with the case “comparatively leniently” given his good record and the fact he “understandably let his focus slip.”

Lyness was awarded six penalty points.

His van was stopped by police on 29 April at Rathfriland Road, Banbridge and the offences detected.
