Logistics firm to create 40 new jobs

The decision by Minister Mark H Durkan to approve plans for the £2.5million warehouse facility at Sandyknowes Business Park could bring dozens of new jobs to the area.

The 2,700 sq/metre storage and distribution unit will have associated office space and car parking.

Local development company Lisleen 2012 LLP, which is developing the facility for an international organisation, say they anticipate the build will be completed by summer 2014 and will create 60 - 70 jobs during the construction phase, and 35 - 40 full time jobs when complete.

“This is a boost for Newtownabbey. The significant investment demonstrates a confidence in the local economy from an international investor which is good news for business,” Mr Durkan said.

“This decision has been turned around in just under three months and demonstrates once again how the planning system can and is delivering for business.”

Welcoming the jobs boost, South Antrim MP William McCrea said: “This certainly shows that South Antrim is very much open for business. I welcome the construction jobs, because that particular sector has suffered very badly during the recession, and I also welcome the permanent jobs as it bodes well for employment in the South Antrim area.

“Hopefully this will act as a catalyst and others will follow. We want to ensure that both foreign and local investment are encouraged in the South Antrim area.”

On Monday evening, the department’s planning approval recommendation was presented to local councillors for consideration. Members passed the recommendation with no objections.
