The Marie Curie shop in the town was supported by staff from BT who were taking part in an Island wide event where staff and local businesses were encouraged to support their local cancer shops.

All over Ireland cancer shops became the focal point for BT staff to give of their time and promote awareness along side raising funds for research and treatment.

Among those supporting the Banbridge shop was local Rugby star Rory Best.

Speaking after attending Carla Lockhart said, “This is a great initiative and the staff from BT who gave of their time are to be commended. It is great that someone with a high profile like Rory Best gets involved to raise awareness and to see such a coordinated approach is a huge benefit to the cancer shops.

“We know that cancer touches all families and the more money we can raise to fund research or treatment the better. I have previously asked the Health Minister why we do not have a cancer strategy in Northern Ireland and will continue to push for this.”
