Marking National Libraries Day on Saturday, he said: “Reading is relaxing, educational and it can broaden your horizons but there are more resources available at your local library along with books.”

Libraries , Mr McCrea said, could be an informal setting for learning, while also offering services for younger children and their parents.

Parents,” he said, “will always be able to find books and resources available for younger children in libraries such as Dromore.

“Libraries cater for all ages, whether it is children, students, young adults, or senior citizens who can find books and learn how to use the internet.

“ . . . Along with the resources available they have been given a more social feel with groups taking part in activities such as ‘Knit and Natter’ at libraries such as Dromore and friends meeting to read the daily papers.”

Together with adding a social side to their service, Mr McCrea added, Libraries NI had made books and resources available online for members to utilise from their own homes.
